Life update and the Generic Product Jam!
Been a little quiet on here lately! I have moved states and am in the process of recovering from having moved states. Everyone survived and only a few small and replaceable things were broken. It's a big change from HCOL East Coast, and I'm eager to start exploring. This is officially the longest I've gone without running a game in three years. I am however participating in a weekly in-person OD&D open table (!) and am going to join some FLGS Fivey at a nearby shop to check the scene. Definitely planning some play reports at least of the OD&D game.
I did however submit an adventure location to the Generic Jam! It's called HAM: Hog Acolytes of Moccus and is free to download. It's a funky little adventure based on my firm belief that there is an implied chaotic pig cult in the OD&D bestiary, and also leverages my early life growing up on animal farms. I submitted it with one hour to spare so I'm sure it's a little homespun, but I finally got off my ass and learned how to use Affinity. First layout work I've done since college, spending two delirious days by lonesome in the library make space trying to get the literary journal print-ready after our designer flaked. Ah, memories.
Next up, I'm working on a dungeon for my own prospective OD&D game, which is still tentatively titled Tigers Upon the Steppeβa fact that amuses and irritates me. Rejected titles include Oops All Plains Hexes and Elfexander the Great. You can see what I'm working with here. My goal is to run it on the Gay Beholder Server and/or in person and usher in Weird OD&D Hack Autumn. Both Tigers and HAM are part of my ongoing exegesis of stock OD&D, a sort of dressing up of the instant ramen, and it's been a fun and fruitful exercise so far. Excited to see how the boiling broth of play changes things.
Cyberpunk has also been on my mind a lot lately. Since the place I worked at was acquired by Undisclosed Large Tech Company I feel I have been getting tons of ideas for it whether I want them or notβgoing to the offsite in the Bay Area and pubcrawling with some trusted coworkers was perhaps the most cyberpunk night of my life... Might be a good way to while away the time until the AI bubble pops and things go to shit. I'll have to read through 2020 and go from there.
