Brew Orcs, a spell for Dungeon Crawl Classics

Ashcan of a spell I created for Crow's Keep! Brew some of my orcs of your very own for fun and profit. You can read about my players doing so in this play report. This will be tidied up for the Orctober jam.

Brew Orcs

Level: 2

Range: self

Duration: Permanent

Casting Time: 2d6 hours minimum; every full day spent brewing thereafter adds a +1 to the check.

Save: None

General: Requires at least three pigs’ worth of blood; the teeth of a pack of wolves; and iron weapons, taken from the site of a battle. The orcs produced are initially loyal to you, but must be kept fed and entertained. Luckily, both can be accomplished by sending them to commit vile acts of violence. Bored and hungry orcs are more than happy to devour their parents. Mutations can be deliberately induced at the judge’s discretion, for example, introducing a basket of scorpions to the mix might result in the orcs emerging with stinger tails. Changing or adulterating the recipe imposes a -2 on the check for each add-in.

Manifestation: Orc(s) created; see table. An orc cauldron casts a murky red glow, throws off a sweltering heat, and smells like blood, barnyard, and brimstone. The weapons soften like noodles in a soup.

Corruption - Roll 1d6: (1) the caster sports a porcine snout; (2) livestock and domestic animals shun the caster; (3) the caster develops a ravenous appetite, never feeling full and requiring twice as much food; (4) when taking damage, the caster has a 10+damage % chance to fly into a berserk rageβ€”only able to attack the one causing damage; (5) The caster is gripped with an compulsion to keep brewing orcs to the exclusion of other activities, Will DC 5 + days since last brew to resist; (6) the caster becomes an orc, a transformation agonizing, hideous, and permanent.

Misfire - Roll 1d6: (1) the cauldron explodes, causing 4d10 points of damage within a 10ft radius, Reflex 8+CL half; (2) an undercooked amalgam equal in stats to d6 x CL orcs emerges from the cauldron, hostile; (3) the cauldron becomes a portal to an overheated realm of blood, earth, and war. The caster is pulled in, of course; (4) the fumes from the cauldron defoliate the land for a mile around. (5) The ingredients suddenly reconstitute themselves and leap from the cauldron; (6) The cauldron keeps producing independent orcs under its own volition at an accelerating rate: every 24 hours, then every 12, 6, and so on. The cauldron rolls 1d20+1, increasing by 1 each time.
